Jay Johnson is continuing to wax poetic about Ty Floyd’s performance for the LSU Tigers over the 2023 season.

If the national media won’t give Floyd his flowers, his manager certainly will. Speaking with the media ahead of the College World Series, Johnson elaborated on why he believes Floyd has been underappreciated throughout the season.

“I’m just so proud of all those guys, you know starting with Ty,” stated the LSU skipper, via Mik’d Up with Mikie Mahtook. “I said this last night at the postgame, somebody was asking me about Ty. They were just like, ‘What do you think, what’s the deal?’ Well, he’s had a great season. Just nobody talks about it because Paul [Skenes] has been on another planet. You kind of lose sight of that.

“But you think of, let’s go backwards. He did his job as a starting pitcher, he gave us a chance to win last night. We had one run in three innings before we had the lightning delay against Oregon State. SEC Tournament, he pitched great against Texas A&M, if it wasn’t the situation where it wasn’t the SEC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament wasn’t around the corner, I never would’ve taken him out of that game. We probably would’ve won, to be honest with you. And then you go backwards, he had a phenomenal outing at Georgia. He had a great outing against Mississippi State. Then the week before against Auburn, like he had the little hiccup in that game, but I mean, he struck out, I mean like seven or eight guys in a row. So it’s about as solid as you get. It’s been a big offensive year in college baseball. I’d take my chances with him all day, every day. He’s a big reason I felt like we would be able to close it out last night.”

Alas, it’s evident Johnson wholeheartedly believes in his entire team, and Floyd is no different. He’s been great for the Tigers in 2023, and will be a big part of the reason their team wins it all, if they’re able to do so in Omaha.

Jay Johnson, Ty Floyd and the LSU Tigers will have their first chance at hitting the field again since the Super Regionals on Friday night against the Tennessee Volunteers, and it’ll be a doozy of a game. It’s slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
