LSU vs. Florida State is likely the biggest game to start this upcoming college football season. That’s why, to Tiger QB Jayden Daniels, he and his team have that one circled on September 3rd.

Daniels spoke about LSU’s opener against the Seminoles in an exclusive interview with On3’s J.D. PicKell at SEC Media Days in Nashville. He noted that there’s “a little extra edge to it” considering how early in the year it is but also that last year’s matchup, the history of the two teams, and what they’re both projected to do this fall plays into it as well.

“I would say, since it’s week one, there’s a little extra edge to it,” said Daniels. “Knowing how that game ended and we had that bad taste in our mouths from that game and from that team. Obviously, rightfully so.”

“It’s two historic programs with what Florida State has done and what LSU has done,” Daniels continued. “Obviously, we’re coming back to that top in the light of college football. And rightfully so. People should be looking at us like that.”

LSU and FSU played one of the best games of last season in New Orleans. Florida State came out on top in the end and won 24-23 inside the Caesars Superdome thanks to a blocked extra point in the final second of the game.

Seminole QB Jordan Travis got the win by completing 20/33 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns. However, Daniels may have won the quarterback battle between the two as, in his first start with LSU after transferring in, he put up two touchdowns along 323 total yards, 209 through the air off of 25 completions and 114 on the ground off of 16 carries.

Now, in 2023, Daniels knows the game will be different the second time around. While he wants to start LSU’s season off strong, he then added that he also wants to come out on top when it comes to his own personal matchups against Travis.

“I’m excited to go out there and play such a great team in Florida State,” Daniels said. “Obviously they’ve got a lot coming back, added a whole bunch of new players.”

“Jordan Travis is back, a great quarterback with what he does. I respect his game a lot,” said Daniels. “Just go out there and be able to just compete against him for another year, for a third time actually. The series (between) us is 1-1. So now we’ve got to break the tiebreaker.”
