There were not too many expectations in Baton Rouge for Year One of Brian Kelly. A new head coach, a new quarterback with Jayden Daniels, and a tough schedule with the SEC West plus Florida State in the nonconference. LSU blew everything out of the water, having an incredible, program-building type of season.

Now, there is going to be some confidence coming from the Tigers entering the 2023 season. Daniels says the group is going to be a tight-knit one, with everyone wanting to improve on a daily basis. LSU already seems to be miles ahead, from a mental standpoint, compared to this time a year ago.

“We all know each other,” Daniels said at the Manning Passing Academy held at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. “We were tight last year but just coming back and having that confidence in each other, what we expect from each players, and how we can take those top players and elevate their game while we’re elevating our game, bringing them along with us.”

In spring/fall camp, LSU was just getting used to each other. Now, there’s a sense of the gang getting back together, hoping to win another SEC West championship. Maybe even take it one step forward, winning in Atlanta and competing for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

From a personal standpoint, Daniels is certainly going to show more confidence on the field. Kelly has talked about LSU’s desire to let the quarterback throw that ball down the field. At times in 2022, there were restrictions due to the offense’s personnel. That is not expected to be the case in 2023.

More than just Daniels should feel confident, though. The LSU defensive line is expected to be dominant, while the offensive line has been completely reworked. Kelly has given his roster new life in a big way in a short amount of time.

LSU will have the opportunity to show their confidence on a big stage right away. A rematch against Florida State is going to take place in Orlando following last year’s instant classic. Both teams are going to be ranked inside the top 10 and have massive expectations attached to their name.

Confidence will grow even larger heading into SEC play if the Tigers can get a win. Now, all we can do is sit around and wait for the season to start.
