2022 was a great season for LSU, led by quarterback Jayden Daniels. As he grew as a quarterback, so did the team around him, on their way to an SEC West crown in a season full of incredible highlights.

During an appearance on SportsCenter, Daniels looked back on the 2022 season to share his top highlight from the year.

“The highlight was going out there and being able to beat Florida away in a very tough environment, obviously bring that joy back to Louisiana after beating Alabama for the first time at home in a while,” Jayden Daniels said. “Obviously, go out there overall in the first year and be able to win 10 games, that hasn’t been done a lot at LSU, especially from a first-year head coach, first-year quarterback, just a whole first-year staff. Being able to win 10 games, that’s a very good accomplishment.”

For most fans, the iconic moment of LSU’s 2022 season was the overtime win over Alabama in Death Valley. The Tigers won the game on a two-point conversion, which Daniels managed to throw to Mason Taylor for the win as fans stormed the field.

Ultimately, the game helped get LSU to the SEC Championship Game, which the Tigers lost to Georgia but gave players like Jayden Daniels valuable experience.

Jayden Daniels on his ultimate goal for LSU in 2023

Going into the 2023 season, Jayden Daniels wants LSU to be able to build on the success that the Tigers had in 2022 and compete for a national championship. After all, with the team’s high-end talent returning, setting goals high makes sense to Daniels.

“Our main core of leaders, of top talent are all coming back — so why not come back and try to win a national championship?” Daniels said.

“The growth in not only me, but my whole team from Game 1 to Game 14. It was a long season and you learn a lot about yourself throughout. Going out there and just seeing what we can get better on, what we can improve on during the season. We knew what we had coming back on offense. Now, our offensive line is coming back, receivers coming back, running backs — we weren’t really missing anybody.”

Despite that, college football analyst Paul Finebaum still thinks Alabama is the team to beat, not LSU in the SEC West.

“Alabama will end up winning the vote of the media here because they still have Nick Saban and they still have enormous talent, and they have the most important game of the West this year: LSU at home,” Finebaum said. “They lost last year in overtime, as everyone remembers. Nick Saban could not figure out a way to stop the two-point conversion, but it will be different in Tuscaloosa. But LSU’s not worried about Alabama right now.”
