JD PicKell: What does Myles Brennan walking away mean for LSU

The latest update in the LSU quarterback competition was a big one with the announcement that Myles Brennan would be walking away from football after it was reported that he would not be named the Tigers’ starter for the fall. The sixth-year senior was hoping for his final shot in Baton Rouge. In the end, things didn’t break his way. Now, On3’s JD PicKell realizes the massive implications this will have on the remaining two options at QB.
PicKell broke down the aftermath of Brennan’s decision during an episode of ‘The Hard Count’. He says LSU did right by letting Brennan know early, even though it meant a grueling end to his college football career.
“Ultimately, it is no longer a three-horse race. It is Garrett Nussmeier and Jayden Daniels,” said PicKell. “Credit to the LSU staff for doing right by Myles Brennan and letting him know we’re not going to be going with you as we get into the fall. This is kind of where we stand. As a Tigers fan, you’ve just gotta tip your hat to (him) for all that he’s done for the program.”
Brennan had been with the LSU program since 2017. After backing up Joe Burrow, his departure left a door open that Brennan could have eventually stepped through. QB battles with the likes of Max Johnson, TJ Finley, and now Daniels and Nussmeier, though, led to limited opportunity.

As a player who could have left before, JD PicKell hopes the LSU fanbase gives Brennan his due respect. However, it will now be time to shift their focus towards Nussmeier and their rumored starter in Daniels.
“For as gritty as he has been and for as much as he’s hung with the Tigers through thick and thin through different coaching staffs, he is a guy that I would hope will be remembered fondly in Baton Rouge…As a whole, Myles Brennan is walking away from football. It sounds like it could be Jayden Daniels as it comes to the quarterback battle (at LSU).
