The LSU secondary has been without one of their key defenders in safety, Major Burns. Burns has been dealing with an injury for quite some time, and it is believed he will have to spend a significant amount of time on the sideline recovering. Despite that, the Baton Rouge native has been a leader on the defense at practice and in the game. Fellow Tigers defensive back Joe Foucha recently explained how injured Burns has still contributed to LSU’s secondary while sidelined with an injury.

“Yeah, he’s definitely a coach,” said Foucha. “When I came in, he’s a very high-energy guy. I love being around him. He pushes guys to the next level. Like, even today, he was out there celebrating as if he was getting ready to play as well.”

Burns was ruled out prior to LSU’s Week 4 victory over New Mexico with an injury to his neck. Tigers head coach Brian Kelly estimated that Burns could be out between 3-6 weeks as he recovers from his upper neck injury. Team doctors have cleared the Tigers’ safety to play, but the coaching staff feels it is best for him to rest in order to prevent further injury.

It’ll be some time before LSU gets Burns back on the field, but that is not going to stop him from cheering his teammates on and contributing whenever and wherever he can throughout the week. The level of leadership and commitment Burns is showing during this rough time for himself will make him an ideal candidate to be a defensive captain for the Tigers next season.

Not far behind the pair is another LSU commitment in Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy four-star EDGE Dashawn Womack, who committed to LSU on July 4.

Womack is ranked as the No. 28 overall recruit in the 2023 class, which puts him firmly inside five-star range once the rankings expand to 32 five-stars. Currently, there are only 23 five-stars – putting Womack within five spots of striking distance to adding his fifth star.

Given teams from around the country are trying to flip the Maryland native away from LSU, Womack offered up some reassurance to Tigers fans hoping he sticks until National Signing Day.

“What’s different from before is that I have committed to them,” Womack told On3 National Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons. “I showed that I committed to them, so they don’t have to worry about other schools trying to get me. Schools are still trying to come in and get me, telling me to flip.”
