Kim Mulkey fires back at reporter after Elite Eight loss: 'How many Final Fours did you play in?'

In a loss to the top overall seed in the tournament, LSU had a third consecutive season reach the national quarterfinal with the last two ending in the Elite Eight. With that, Kim Mulkey had to remind one reporter of the significance of that.
Mulkey fired one at a reporter in the postgame press conference after the No. 3 Tigers lost at 72-65 to No. 1 UCLA in Spokane as the Bruins reached the Final Four. She noted how hard it is to do in asking him how many times he had reached the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
“That’s terrible, isn’t it? Is that terrible or is that good? Is it? How many Final Fours did you play in?” Mulkey asked the reporter for KLSU Sports, to which he responded with none as some in the room laughed.
“So it’s probably pretty good, huh? Alright,” closed Mulkey.
Again, LSU has very little to feel bad about considering how the last three seasons have gone. The Tigers are 96-13 overall (.881) in that span and have been a No. 3 seed in each of their four seasons under Mulkey. They won it all for the first time in school history in 2023 and have since lost a pair of appearances in the Elite Eight in 2024 and now in 2025. ’24 ended in a 94-87 loss in a rematch with No. 1 Iowa, who the second of the No. 1 seeds, while ’25 closed with this 72-65 loss to the top team in the field in No. 1 UCLA.

That brings Mulkey to 13 appearances in the Elite Eight since 2005 at Baylor and LSU. Those have led to five appearances in the Final Four, as compared to the none, with four national championships.
This’ll be one of the last media obligations for Mulkey for a bit with the season-ending loss. She made sure to get some final sarcasm in it, though, with that question back to this media member.
