KJ Williams discusses the value of LSU earning large comeback victory
The LSU men’s basketball team was able to outlast Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon 72-70. The Tigers found a way to overcome a 20-point deficit to earn their eighth win of the young season. A huge part of LSU’s success on Saturday was thanks to senior forward KJ Williams, who had a career night. After the game, Williams discussed the value of the Tigers earning the large comeback victory over the Demon Deacons.
“We have vet guys on this team. So we’ve been in moments like this or worse situations,” said Williams. “We just had to calm down and play our game. Coming out in the first half, we were down 20 points in the first half, but we had to take media (timeout) by media; every four minutes. So we came out with the mindset that we’re not going to give up. And it shows great leadership on our team and the players for the buy-in on our team that we’ll never let down.
“It’s a great feeling knowing that we got players from different areas on our team especially playing against a team like that. They’re an ACC team. Credit them; they have a good team as well. But it was a great environment for us, and we just had to come in as a whole to get the job done. So, on the offensive and defensive end, we had to just work on our principles and work and execute as well.”
Williams ended the game with 35 points on 14-of-21 shooting from the field. But it was the senior’s sensational three-point shooting that stole the show. Williams went 7-9 shooting from behind the arc and was arguably the difference in the game.

Williams and LSU helped out with game-winner
With seconds left to play in the game and the score tied at 70-70, the Tigers scored the go-ahead basket with an impressive move, drive, and finish by guard Justice Hill. That score put LSU up 72-70 and was the difference in the game as they went on to win by that final score.
Hill didn’t do much in the game when it came to scoring but tied for the most assist in the game for LSU with six. The senior guard came up clutch with the bucket, scoring just his second basket of the game. Hill finished the game with four points on 2-6 shooting from the field. He may have finished the game with just four points, but hill saved his best for last, helping LSU pick up their eighth victory on the season and improving to 8-1.
