Lolo Jones fires back at Shaq over claim that Angel Reese is greatest LSU athlete ever
Everyone wants to be number one. That kind of conversation gets fascinating once you start deep diving into the history of whatever sport’s topic it’s framed around. Even so, the recent discussion around the best to ever do it down at LSU has become even juicier considering how Lolo Jones fired back at Shaquille O’Neal.
This stems from O’Neal recently saying on his podcast, ‘The Big Pod’, that Angel Reese, the Most Outstanding Player of this year’s NCAA Tournament and projected top-three selection in next year’s WNBA Draft, was the greatest athlete to ever come out of Baton Rouge. Jones didn’t take too kindly to that, though, and said O’Neal must have still been adjusting to the medicine from his recent surgery.
“Shaq knew what he was doing. Shaq’s just bored,” Jones said to TMZ Sports. “He’s coming off hip surgery. He’s chilling at home. I think Shaq, honestly, is high on some pain medicines. The list is so big with LSU.”
“So, for Shaq to have the audacity to say ‘she’s the best ever’? I’m like, ‘Bro, chill on the pain meds,’ because that list is arduous, ” said Jones. “(It’s) so long.”
However, Jones did clarify that this wasn’t a shot at the now-national champion in Reese. She just meant that the field at LSU is almost too difficult to pick from, especially considering her own personal feelings when it comes to the school’s track and field program.

“We’re not hating on Angel. We love to see it. She’s cooking. Let her keep cooking,” clarified Jones. “But, I’m telling you, LSU track and field is the powerhouse for that university.”
All three have incredible resumes from their careers at LSU. For Jones, she was three-time national champion and 11-time All-American before going on into her Olympic career. With O’Neal, he won Player Of The Year in 1991 before becoming a Hall of Famer in the NBA. Now, Reese is an All-American talent who helped win the school’s first championship on the basketball court.
As far as the discussion, that’s not even mentioning names like Pete Maravich, Joe Burrow, and others that have once competed for the Tigers.
In the end, there’s still plenty of love between this set of alumni. Still, considering her career in the bayou isn’t even over yet, Jones needs O’Neal to respectfully pump the breaks when it comes to Reese’ all-time status in LSU’s history books.
