Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry took a shot at the LSU football program at an event on Monday for its blowout loss to Alabama this past weekend, according to The Advocate.

The newspaper reported that Landry blasted “woke people” for not wanting a live tiger back at Tiger Stadium for the matchup with the Crimson Tide. He also took a shot at LSU’s play on the field.

“Our tiger, our live tiger, unfortunately, disappointingly, was the only tiger who showed up Saturday. I’m sorry,” Jeff Landry said, according to The Advocate.

Landry was speaking at an event called “Politics with a Punch,” the newspaper reports.

LSU brought a live tiger onto the field ahead of the matchup with Alabama this weekend for the first time in a decade. Jeff Landry made it clear that he wanted a live tiger back at Tiger Stadium ahead of the matchup and he ultimately got his wish.

Landry has been outspoken about the fact that he feels like a live tiger should be on the sideline at Tiger Stadium. At the event on Monday, he blamed “woke people” for ruining traditions, per The Advocate.

“I had more people come up to me, and they remembered Mike the Tiger more than some of the great plays in Tiger Stadium,” Landry said, according to the newspaper. “And they grew up as children seeing this. It’s about tradition. At the end of the day, these woke people have tried to take tradition out of this country. It’s tradition that built this country.”

Having the live tiger around on Saturday obviously did not help LSU as the Tigers were blasted 42-13 by Alabama. Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe had his way with the LSU defense, rushing for 185 yards and four touchdowns.

LSU will look to get back on track this weekend when it plays Florida in The Swamp. Kickoff in Gainesville is set for 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised by ABC.
