LSU is going to get quite a welcome to Death Valley in Week 2. The Tigers will be playing in front of a packed house.

LSU announced the matchup against Southern is officially sold out. That means 100,000 strong will be in attendance for the first home game of the Brian Kelly Era in Baton Rouge.

The Tigers’ 2022 season got off to a rough start in Week 1, falling to Florida State in New Orleans after the Seminoles blocked the game-tying extra point attempt with no time left on the clock. LSU was trying to cap off a 99-yard scoring drive in the final minute, but ended up falling just short in Kelly’s debut as head coach.

It also marked the LSU debut for Jayden Daniels after his transfer from Arizona State. He got off to a bit of a slow start, but ended up going 26-for-35 for 209 yards and two touchdowns in the air in addition to a game-high 114 rushing yards. During his weekly press conference, Kelly acknowledged the sluggish start, but credited Daniels for finding his footing and getting into a rhythm.

“I think I’ve talked a little bit about it,” Kelly said. “I think early recognition needs to be better. But I thought he competed well, I thought later in the game, he definitely settled into some really good rhythm. I think when we did go some tempo, that really benefitted him. I thought late, his pocket presence was excellent. He knew when to run, he knew when to stay in the pocket and find the open receiver.

“You know, I think, first game, kind of a mixed bag early on. Settled into it nicely as the game went on. But that’s not good enough against good teams. You’ve got to be ready to go, right out. And I think this will be, probably a really good game — this past game — for him to really learn from and up his game.”

Daniels and LSU will try to bounce back from the season-opening loss in front of the sold-out crowd Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
