LSU baseball fans celebrate women's basketball win during at-bat, give standing ovation
Friday night was an amazing night for LSU athletics. Not only did their men’s baseball team win in a top 15 matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers, but their women’s basketball team punched their tickets to the national championship game, as well.
The Tigers made a furious rally against the top-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies, to pull off a 79-72 win, in order to advance to the national championship game.
Check it out below as the crowd at Alex Box Stadium gives a standing ovation to the LSU women’s basketball team.
LSU took a critical 5-4 lead in the fourth inning in Friday night’s baseball game, thanks to the Tigers delivering back-to-back home runs. First, Brady Neal tied the game up with a solo shot. Then, Gavin Dugas blasted one to give the Tigers the lead. They wouldn’t relinquish the lead the rest of the night in their 6-4 win.
In the top of the 8th inning, the LSU women had officially advanced to their first national championship game ever. They’ve never won a national crown in program history, but they’ll get their first chance on Sunday, when they’ll face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes and sharpshooter Caitlin Clark.

LSU superstar Angel Reese played big when her team needed it
LSU superstar Angel Reese was once again dominant as she’s been the past few years, stuffing the stat sheet with a double-double, 24 points and 12 rebounds. She’s been a dominant superstar the past few seasons in the women’s college basketball landscape.
She’s racked up an extensive number of accolades this year, including first team AP All-American, first team All-SEC, and first team All-SEC Defensive team honors. The superstar small forward will look to add one more magical piece of hardware to her trophy case in a few days: a national championship. If she can bring home a national crown for the Tigers, it would be the first national championship in LSU women’s basketball history.
Earlier in the season, Reese made sure that Arkansas’ Samara Spencer would remember her name. Reese lost her shoe in the middle of a play when Spencer was driving down the lane. Reese was trying to put her shoe on as Spencer was driving down the lane for a layup, but the LSU star then changed her mind. She held the shoe in one hand, and then swatted the basketball away from Spencer with authority with the other hand, sending her crashing to the hardwood handed.
Reese came to LSU as one of the most dynamic players in women’s college basketball after her two seasons at Maryland. She was the top-rated player in the transfer portal in the 2022 cycle. Reese led the Terrapins to the Sweet 16 in 2022 as their top scorer (17.8 points per game) and top rebounder (10.6 rebounds per game). She became the first sophomore in Maryland women’s basketball history to average a double-double since 1975. She also earned third team All-American honors from the Associated Press in 2022.
