LSU baseball unveils another billboard to commemorate seventh national title
The LSU Tigers baseball team was crowned kings of college baseball this summer after capturing the College World Series title. To commemorate the program’s national championship victory, they have erected a new billboard outside their stadium.
The Tigers’ baseball team joined the LSU women’s basketball team as national champions in 2023. For the ladies stalking the hardwood, it is the first national championship in program history. For the men prowling the diamond and outfield, it is the seventh title for the program. And their new billboard outside of their home confines at Alex Box Stadium stands as a reminder to all of LSU’s dominance in baseball. It is also accompanied by a message that encapsulates what Tigers’ baseball has been and will be for years to come.

For those who are new to or even slightly unfamiliar with LSU baseball, ‘The Powerhouse’ is also the name of the season-long docuseries the program started before the start of this season. The six-episode series, which can be viewed on the team’s LSU.gold site, captured the highs and lows of the Tigers’ 2023 season as skipper Jay Johnson led them to their seventh national championship in Omaha.
What a run it was for the Tigers baseball team in 2023. Former LSU stars pitcher Paul Skenes and first baseman Dylan Crews shined bright in Omaha as they were able to take down the only other program to be ranked No. 1 2023, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, in thrilling fashion in the semifinal round. LSU followed that up by taking down another SEC baseball power, the Florida Gators, while exacting revenge on the team that bested them in 2017 in the College World Series championship series.
It was a big week for Tigers’ sports all around. As the baseball program unveiled their new championship billboard, the women’s basketball program revealed some historical news of their own. Women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey is nearing an agreement on a monster contract extension, NOLA.com’s Reed Darcey reported. The university board of supervisors is set to meet and discuss the deal on Friday.

The extension would be for 10 years and $32 million, according to the report. Mulkey just wrapped up a banner second season at LSU, leading the Tigers to a national championship just two years removed from a 9-13 record.
With the new contract, Mulkey would become the highest-paid women’s basketball coach in the nation. It would start out with a salary of $2.75 million and increase to $3.65 million by the final year. That means she will top UConn coach Geno Auriemma’s $2.9 million salary and South Carolina coach Dawn Staley’s annual salary of $2.7 million.
Mulkey has had plenty of success in her coaching career. A longtime head coach at Baylor, she led the Bears to three national titles before deciding to return home to Louisiana in 2021. On the whole, she has a 692-112 overall record since becoming a head coach in 2000.
