LSU building recruiting momentum with addition of 2025 No. 1 recruit
Brian Kelly & co. landed the top recruit in the nation on Saturday night as Belleville (Mich.) 2025 No. 1 quarterback Bryce Underwood committed to LSU after a heated recruitment between the Tigers and his home-state Michigan Wolverines.
With the nation’s top prospect already in the class, Kelly’s staff still has plenty of work that could be done with this recruiting class. Eight recruits have pledged to the Tigers — three of which are five-star prospects. So far, that’s good enough for the country’s No. 1 recruiting class.
LSU recruiting insider Shea Dixon spoke about LSU’s 2025 recruiting plans on The Inside Scoop football recruiting show. Defense was the initial topic of choice following the Tigers’ overhaul of a defensive staff that produced a subpar product on the field this season.
“I think you turn the focus to defense because you’d like to see some guys get on board, and that’s something we’ll figure out with this coaching change,” Dixon said. “They just named Blake Baker as DC, they still have to fill out an entire defensive staff.”

Keeping Louisiana players home
New Iberia (La.) Westgate four-star cornerback is the No. 19 recruit in the 2025 On300 and one of the most sought-after defensive backs in the nation. LSU will hope to keep him home.
“Jaboree Antoine in Louisiana is the No. 2 corner in the country,” Dixon said. “If there’s a position LSU would really, really love to land a guy at that’s kind of a five-star caliber guy, in addition to who they have, it would be at corner. Antoine from 45 minutes down the road here in Baton Rouge — that’s your backyard, you should be able to lock up a guy like that. That’ll be priority No. 1.”
“Then I’d just say expand to all of Louisiana and East Texas,” Dixon added. “That’s where they’ve put in a ton of work, it’s a deep Louisiana 2025 class, it’s a deep East Texas class. I think if they can continue to build on that momentum, that’ll be key, but as I’ve said many times before — and now that he’s on board, what does a player like Bryce Underwood. . . what sort of attention does that draw from other recruits? That could mean a more national approach to at least a couple of players in that class.”
