After LSU football coach Ed Orgeron addressed rumors regarding his job security Monday, one reporter went in for a follow-up question. The fiery coach stopped him midsentence and quipped back with a strong response.

“Are you trying to get another quote from me?” Orgeron asked.

“I’m just trying to do my job,” the reporter replied back.

“Good,” the coach said with a sly smile. “We’ll I’m gonna do mine. I’m handling it great. I said that before.”

Orgeron’s job security has been a major point of discussion for many college football talking heads over the past couple of weeks. The Tigers are so far 0-2 in the midst of a brutal stretch of six straight games against ranked opponents.

ESPN radio host Paul Finebaum said a Week 5 loss to Auburn put Orgeron on the hot seat. The pressure has only increased following a another loss to Kentucky this past week. LSU’s next chance to turn the narrative around comes Saturday against No. 20 Florida.

Asked if he has addressed his job status to his players, Orgeron was quick to answer.

“No, not at all,” he said. “That’s for me to handle. Nobody’s told me about my job status. I haven’t had any discussions about it. As far as I know, I’m the head coach of the LSU Tigers. That’s all that matters.”

The Tigers’ struggles started during a Week 1 loss to UCLA. After managing to string together a three-game winning streak, they have lost two straight to fall to 3-3.

Orgeron led the Tigers to a national championship victory in 2019, but is a middling 8-8 since then. He still owns an impressive 48-17 record since taking over LSU in 2016. That includes a win in the Fiesta Bowl during the 2018 season.

As one might expect, Ed Orgeron said he doesn’t pay much attention to the questions about his job security. The coach assured fans that he takes pride in being the coach, and isn’t changing his approach to things any time soon.

“I could go in there and read everything you guys write,” he said. “I could think about it and then go in there and tell them about it. I don’t listen to all that stuff. The best thing for me to do is to be very positive and understand the expectations of LSU. I will say this: No one has to tell me about the LSU expectations. I know ’em. I was born with ’em. I understand this is not LSU’s performance. I understand my job. I get it totally. I’m gonna work as hard as I am today and I promise you I will not blink for anyone.”
