LSU defensive lineman Fitzgerald West enters NCAA Transfer Portal

LSU defensive lineman Fitzgerald West has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. West will have multiple years of eligibility remaining.

West originally came to LSU as an offensive lineman, but transitioned to the defensive line ahead of 2023. He played in just two games in 2023.

Having played both lines in high school, West found the position shift to come naturally enough. West discussed the transition to his new spot some during the spring.

“I like it,” he said. “I’m used to it. I’ve been playing it almost all my life so it’s natural for me. I’d say the transition learning plays and stuff though, it’s not too hard for me. I pretty much know the scheme, so I know my assignment every play.”

West played high school football at Lafayette Christian (La.) Academy, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 800 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
