One lucky LSU fan got the moment he’d been waiting on for years, only to flub it in spectacular fashion in front of the home fans on Tuesday night.
In a game against Nicholls in the bottom of the eighth inning, LSU slugger Tommy White came to the plate with two runners on and two outs. He took a 1-1 pitch over the plate and gave it a ride, lifting it out past the left field wall.
A fan named Cory was waiting.
“I mean it was on a rope and I’ve been carrying this glove with me for years and I was like, ‘OK, now’s my time, I’ve got one coming,'” Cory said, according to NBC33’s Pat Timlin. “And hole in the glove, man, what can I say? Beaned off my dome and here we are. I’ve got a nice little goose egg.”

The ball did indeed do some damage. Cory flashed his forehead to the cameras after the game, showing an abrasion where the ball hit.

“It don’t feel good,” Cory said. “It felt like every bit of 109 mile an hour home run ball.”
The shot helped LSU secure a 9-0 win over Nicholls, cruising in style during the midweek game. In a season that hasn’t necessarily lived up to expectations for the defending national champions, Tuesday night was fun; the Tigers launched five dingers, including the one off Cory’s head.
Not all was a loss for Cory, either. He didn’t end up finding the home run ball, but he did get a nice gesture from the Tigers.
“No, it skipped over the fence but Josh Pearson, man, he’s such a great guy,” Cory said. “He came and tossed me their toss ball that they do in between innings. So he tossed it to me. I guess probably Friday I’ll go get Tommy White to sign it for me and maybe kiss my bo-bo.”
