LSU and Houston have added a game against one another to their future schedules. The two teams will square off in 2027 at a neutral site, the Tigers announced Tuesday.

The game will take place at NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, according to the announcement. LSU and Houston have only played each other twice in 1999 and 2000 — Nick Saban’s first year as the head coach of the Tigers.

“The city of Houston and the entire area of southeast Texas continues to be vital to the success of LSU, not only our football program, but the entire university,” Tigers head coach Brian Kelly said in a statement. “With more LSU alumni in that region than any other location outside of the state of Louisiana, it’s important that we have a strong presence in this area and this season-opening matchup will certainly enhance and strengthen the LSU brand in the state of Texas.”

Houston is coming off an 8-5 overall record in 2022 and the program is preparing to join the Big 12 Conference next season. As for LSU, the Tigers won the SEC West in Kelly’s first season at the helm with a 6-2 SEC record in addition to a 10-4 overall record.

LSU set to hire former Ed Orgeron assistant Gerald Chatman as defensive analyst

According to Matt Zenitz of On3, Gerald Chatman — who served as an assistant under Ed Orgeron with the Tigers in the past — is joining Brian Kelly’s staff as a defensive analyst.

“LSU is hiring Gerald Chatman as a defensive analyst, sources tell @on3sports,” tweeted Zenitz. “Chatman, who previously worked at LSU under Ed Orgeron, was Colorado’s defensive line coach and interim defensive coordinator this past season.”

Of course, Chatman saw what success looked like at LSU — but also how far the Tigers could fall when Orgeron was ousted. Now, he’s returning as their fortune changes, as Kelly is changing the narrative around the Tigers.
