LSU football coach Brian Kelly spotted at pivotal Game 2 of College World Series Finals vs. Florida
When it comes to competing on the biggest stage of college sports, LSU head football coach Brian Kelly is no stranger to it. On Sunday, he decided to make the flight to Omaha, Nebraska to join all the Tiger fans in supporting the LSU baseball team in their quest for a national title. Since they won on Saturday night, the Tigers are just one win away from a national crown. Kelly was spotted in the stands during Game 2 of the College World Series Finals matchup vs. Florida.

Those are some pretty sharp shades from the LSU head man. Kelly’s record as a head football coach speaks for itself. No matter what he accomplishes at LSU, he’s still heading for the Hall of Fame. That much is crystal clear. It’ll be exciting to see what he can accomplish this season with Jayden Daniels under center–arguably the best quarterback prospect he’s ever worked with.
Brian Kelly is not the only famous member of the LSU football family in the house in Omaha. Former LSU great Tyrann Mathieu is also at Sunday’s game with his family. Check out the picture below the “Honey Badger” posted to his Twitter account.
During his time at LSU, Mathieu was a Heisman Trophy finalist following the 2011 season after he racked up 77 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries (two were returned for a touchdown), and two interceptions. On special teams that year, he had 26 punt returns for 420 yards, with 2 punt returns for touchdowns. At his peak, he was one of the best defenders in LSU football history.
As far as the baseball game on Sunday, LSU currently trails Florida 8-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Florida slugger Ty Evans blasted a pivotal grand slam in the top of the third inning to give the Gators a 7-3 advantage. We’ll see how the rest of the game plays out on Sunday. It’s been an incredible 2023 College World Series so far. The game is being nationally televised on ESPN.
The Tigers’ baseball team has reeled in an extensive number of accolades recently. And that’s what you might expect of the team that was the top-ranked team in all of college baseball for a good chunk of the season. Slugger Dylan Crews is not only the projected No. 1 overall selection for the upcoming 2023 MLB Draft, but he added another piece of hardware to his trophy case on Sunday.

LSU slugger Dylan Crews won the 2023 Golden Spikes Award
LSU slugger Dylan Crews was named the 2023 Golden Spikes Award winner ahead of Game 2 of the College World Series final.
The finalists for the award came down to LSU’s Crews and Paul Skenes, and Florida‘s Jac Caglianone. All three men, who will be prominently featured in Sunday’s pivotal CWS game, made their own case to win the award, but in the end, it was Crews who came away with college baseball’s most prestigious award.
Minutes before Crews took the field for Game 2, ESPN interviewed his father, George, to describe what it meant to his family to see him in the position he’s in right now: one win away from becoming a national champion.
“It’s all about this team,” Crews’ father said. “It’s unbelievable. Jay Johnson is the greatest coach in baseball. The guys that he’s put together, the development — Dylan could not do this without all of those guys. That’s what it’s all about.”
