2025 WR Phillip Wright III commits to in-state LSU
Destrehan (La.) three-star wide receiver Phillip Wright III has committed to LSU.
He chose the in-state Tigers following his decommitment from Michigan on Aug. 5.
Wright is the No. 422 overall prospect and No. 69 wideout in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 12 player in Louisiana.

Wright visited LSU for the Tigers’ big Bayou Splash recruiting event at the end of July. He backed off his commitment to the Wolverines soon after and is now the third receiver to join the Tigers’ 2025 class, flanking Las Vegas Bishop Gorman four-star Derek Meadows and New Orleans Edna Karr four-star TaRon Francis.
“Had a good time with the guys around campus and a lot of people that I know in my class from around the state,” Wright told On3’s Steve Wiltfong after his latest trip to LSU. “That’s an awesome program for a receiver. We had a good time overall. It’s a family thing with all the guys.”

LSU receivers coach Cortez Hankton originally offered Wright at the end of January. He’s logged multiple trips to Baton Rouge and is now set to join his former teammate, freshman linebacker Kolaj Cobbins, in the Bayou next season.
“Getting that offer was amazing because I’m from The Boot and basically grew up on LSU,” Wright told The Bengal Tiger. “To get that offer was awesome. Coach Hankton grabbed me and my family and we talked, and he told me he was offering me, and that made my day.”
