LSU basketball suffered a blow in a game against Florida State just minutes into the contest, when forward Jalen Reed went down hurt.

Reed appeared to go down following a made layup with 18:24 to play in the first half. According to Tre Allen, a reporter for the Reveille, Reed fell awkwardly and came up holding his knee.

He needed assistance from his teammates and a coach to get off the floor.

Reed’s loss would be a considerable one for the LSU frontcourt, as Reed is soaking up 26.9 minutes per game and is the squad’s leading rebounder. He’s averaging 12.4 points and 7.4 points per game.

In addition to his scoring and rebounding, Reed averages 1.3 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. He’s a 6-foot-10, 240-pound junior from Jackson, Miss.

LSU has gotten off to a strong start to the 2024-25 season, at 6-1 overall entering Tuesday night’s contest against Florida State. The team’s lone loss came to Pittsburgh.

At the time of this writing, Florida State was leading LSU 30-23 with about four minutes left in the first half.

Matt McMahon sets expectation for LSU

LSU head coach Matt McMahon isn’t tempering expectations in his third season at the helm of the Tigers. Last month, McMahon revealed his hopes for the 2024-25 campaign.

“You don’t come to LSU to play in the NIT. You come to LSU to build a program that gets to the NCAA Tournament and wins games in the tournament,” McMahon said. “I don’t ever put limitations on our team. To me, it’s all about just focus on, ‘How do we get better every day? How do we build the chemistry of our team?’

“We’ve talked about the urgency we have to have in November and December to take advantage of some of the non-conference opportunities that we’ll have on our schedule, but the goal is to become the best team we’re capable of being. I really like the pieces on our team, and I think we’ll stay committed to that. We’ll put ourselves in a position to have some opportunities here as we work our way toward league play.”
