LSU guard Cam Hayes suffers injury near end of victory against NC Central
LSU guard Cam Hayes suffered an injury with around two minutes remaining Tuesday against NC Central. While chasing down an NC Central player on a fast break, Hayes went up for a block attempt but was seen grabbing for his knee as he landed.
The sophomore had to be helped off the court by two trainers and did not return to the game as LSU closed it out for a 67-57 victory. Hayes finished the game with 14 points and seven rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting.
Hayes had been a key player off the bench for the Tigers this season, but received his first start Tuesday. A transfer from NC State, he entered the contest averaging seven points in just 16.1 minutes per game.

Thankfully, good news would come on Cam Hayes’ injury from coach Matt McMahon in his postgame press conference. McMahon revealed that the injury was “just a cramp,” according to Matthew Brune of The Bengal Tiger.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see whether Hayes remains in the starting lineup for the next game against Winthrop on Saturday. His 14 points and seven rebounds were both season highs, so he certainly made a case for himself to receive more playing time.
