LSU guard Last-Tear Poa has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Talia Goodman reported on Wednesday. Poa spent the past three seasons with the Tigers after transferring in from Northwest Florida State as a JUCO player ahead of 2022-23 as LSU went on to win the national championship.

This past season in 2024-25, Poa appeared in 30 games and made 15 starts. She averaged 2.0 points and 1.9 assists across 12.8 minutes per game as the Tigers advanced to the Elite Eight.

Originally from Melbourne, Austrailia, Poa attended UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginnindera for her high school years. She was unranked as a recruit before opting to spend the first year of her college career at the JUCO level to hopefully garner more attention.

It certainly worked as she helped lead Northwest Florida State to an NJCAA national championship during her freshman season. She was considered the top JUCO transfer in the country after averaging 14.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in her second year to win the FCSAA Player of the Year.

Poa immediately became a part of the rotation during her first season at LSU and played around 12.5 minutes per game off the bench. That increased the following year in 2023-24, which was her best season to average 4.9 points, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals in 20.1 minutes per game. She also became a key cog on the defensive end due to her willingness to take a charge.

Because JUCO seasons do not count against NCAA eligibility, Poa will have one year remaining to play wherever she decides to transfer next. It will be interesting to see where she lands and whether her somewhat limited role from this past season at LSU will be expanded at all.

Last-Tear Poa has one of the most interesting names in college sports and the story of how she got it doesn’t fail to deliver. Her family is originally from the Cook Islands and has Polynesian heritage. Her great-grandmother died shortly before she was born and Poa’s first name relates directly to her.

Her great grandmother predicted that a child would be born and shed one final tear while on her deathbed. Poa has a birthmark right below her left eye in the same spot where her great grandmother’s last tear fell.

She’s definitely a player that isn’t hard to find a reason to root for and has proven her value on one of the best teams in women’s college basketball. Perhaps given the chance to take on a larger responsibility, she can shine even more.
