LSU head coach Ed Orgeron makes critical announcement on LSU bowl game
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron made a special announcement following his team’s stunning come from behind 27-24 victory against Texas A&M on Saturday night. He told reporters after Saturday night’s game that it would be his last game with the school. Offensive line coach Brad Davis will be the interim head coach for LSU for their bowl game.
Wide receiver Jaray Jenkins provided the heroics for the Tigers in the final seconds. The Tigers completed their comeback after quarterback Max Johnson competed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jenkins with 20 seconds remaining in the game.
Check out the highlight below with the play-by-play audio by LSU’s very own, Chris Blair.
Johnson is the son of former NFL veteran quarterback Brad Johnson. Jenkins hauled in eight catches for 169 yards and two touchdowns in the game. It was a fitting end to LSU’s regular season, as the Tigers have dealt with numerous injuries throughout the season but other players have stepped up along the way.
The touchdown catch was his second touchdown of the game. The win came much to the delight of the home crowd in Baton Rouge, which saw their beloved Tigers become bowl eligible with their sixth win of the 2021 season.
LSU’s 2021 season was full of drama but the team never quit
The Tigers had a season marred by plenty of distractions with their head coach getting fired, the rumors around their future head coach, and plenty of injuries. Many thought the team was going to pack it in for the 2021 season but the team showed a lot of grit, fight, and heart down the stretch.

They nearly pulled off a stunning upset of Alabama, only losing 20-14. The Tigers had one of the best playcalls of the 2021 season, when their punter beautifully executed a fake punt jump pass.
LSU punter Avery Atkins found tight end Jack Mashburn on the play.
That play should be in some sort of a vault for special team’s coaches to study. It was beautifully executed all around.
LSU and Texas A&M Notes for Orgeron’s final game
The Tigers went out with quite the bang for Orgeron’s final game. His team put up over 400 total yards of offense against a very talented Texas A&M defense and a ferocious Aggie defensive line.
Orgeron had one final thing to say to everyone before he left the field on Saturday night.
“Geaux Tigers,” Orgeron said one last time to conclude his final on the field interview. Fitting words to cap his LSU head coaching career. With the win, the Tigers avoided their first losing season since 1999.
