LSU lands commitment from Omaha transfer forward Marquel Sutton

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, LSU has landed a commitment from Marquel Sutton via the NCAA transfer portal. Sutton just wrapped up his fourth season of college basketball as he heads toward the end of his eligibility. Baton Rouge will be the final destination, opting to play for the Tigers.
Sutton just wrapped up a career year at Omaha, one where the program made the NCAA Touranment. He averaged 18.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while shooting 47.9% from the field. The free throw percentage was good for a big man too, making 73.9% of attempts from the charity stripe.
Omaha went on to earn a two-seed on Selection Sunday, matching up against St. John’s. Sutton was in double figures with 11 points and four rebounds in what turned into a losing effort for the Mavericks.
The On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings had Sutton as one of the top names out there. He was the No. 66 overall player to enter this cycle. Looking at just power forwards, Sutton was inside the top 20 at the position at No. 18.
Head coach Matt McMahon picks up a nice piece in Sutton. LSU continues to make a big push in the transfer portal, hoping for an improved 2025-2026 season.

LSU lands Portland’s Max Mackinnon out of NCAA transfer portal
According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, LSU has landed a commitment out of the NCAA transfer portal from Max Mackinnon. He previously played in the Pacific Northwest with Portland but will be making a move down to the South. A nice pickup for head coach Matt McMahon with an assist from one of his assistant coaches.
“NEWS: Portland transfer Max Mackinnon has committed to LSU, his agent Daniel Moldovan told ESPN,” Givony said via X. “The 6’6 Australian wing averaged 14.5 PPG this season, shooting 41% for 3. LSU Associate Head Coach David Patrick going back to his roots.”
LSU will be the third school Mackinnon will play for throughout his college career. Elon won his high school recruitment, spending two years with the Phoenix. A year at Portland was an effective one, as shown by the stats Givony provided in his report.
Mackinnon will now be playing in a power conference for the first time. A massive step up in competition is coming as LSU is hoping to get back into the thick of the SEC next season. Landing players such as Mackinnon certainly helps the case as the Tigers continue to raid the transfer portal.
