LSU lights up Kentucky with back-to-back homers from Tommy White, Tre Morgan in Super Regional

LSU and head coach Jay Johnson went out and got Tommy White from North Carolina State in the transfer portal for moments like the one he delivered on Saturday night in the Baton Rouge Super Regional. With one swing of the bat, White changed the game.
The Tigers already had a 1-0 lead when White came to bat in the bottom of the third inning with a runner on first base. He got a pitch from Kentucky’s Zack Lee on the inner half of the plate and detonated it to left field.
“Dude can hit it a mile and he just did! Second jack for LSU and all the way out of the ballpark,” play-by-play announcer Tom Hart said.
White’s home run cleared the outfield fences and the boundaries of Alex Box Stadium as the Tiger faithful roared in approval.
“You talk about a tank, too. He just goes down and sticks his nose on this two-seam fastball and finds the barrel. And he knew it when it touched the bat this was leaving everything. Well out over the left field wall and over the bleachers in left field,” color commentator and LSU baseball alum Ben McDonald said.
But the fireworks continued.
After White completed his trot, first baseman Tre Morgan stepped in. He had already clubbed a home run to the opposite field in the first inning to break the scoring seal. In his second at-bat, he repeated the act, sending the ball out to right field this time.

In two swings of the bat, LSU took the game from 1-0 to 4-0.
And for good measure, Gavin Dugas blasted a solo shot in the fourth inning to make it 5-0 as ace starting pitcher Paul Skenes cruised along.
LSU head coach Jay Johnson gave props to the crowd for hanging around and being loud
After hours of rain delays, the LSU fans were there in force to celebrate the home run party.
“Yeah, just a big hat tip to the fans for sticking around,” Johnson said to the broadcast team.
The Tigers’ head coach then jokingly made a pitch to all the players currently in the transfer portal.
“And yeah, I hope every good player in the transfer portal is watching us right now. This doesn’t exist anywhere else,” Johnson said.
Johnson gave his squad credit for how they dealt with the long down period before the game.
Yeah, we’ve got a veteran team. They know how to handle themselves. We had a couple meetings throughout and just had a couple check ins to not get too far away from the mindset we need to come out and execute when they say go,” Johnson said.
