LSU linebacker Harold Perkins enters his third season with the Tigers following back-to-back breakout seasons in The Bayou. But one of the biggest topics of conversation surrounding the New Orleans native heading into the 2024 season is what position he’ll play at under new defensive coordinator Blake Baker.

Perkins served as more of an edge rusher for LSU in his true freshman season before being moved to the inside linebacker spot ahead of the 2023 season. A year where his production was virtually identical to his previous Freshman All-America season, but LSU’s defense struggled.

Rather than asking where Perkins feels most comfortable positionally or what role he sees himself playing in this year’s Tiger defense, On3’s Jesse Simonton added a unique and nuanced spin to the question. Asking Perkins at SEC Media Days how he will use himself in the highly anticipated College Football 25 video game.

“I’m gonna mix it around, I’m gonna be all over,” Perkins smiled and said. “From the d-line, I’ll probably even move me to safety”

Perkins will more than likely have the opportunity to take his talents to the NFL following this season, and if he does, his last college football season will represent the first in over a decade that a new college football video game has been in existence. With this week’s College Football 25 release representing one of the most highly anticipated moments in quite some time for college football fans and gamers.

His versatility and skills in real life match his skillset in the game, ranked as the 11th highest-rated player in the SEC for the game and the No. 31 player across all conferences at a 92 overall. Boasting an impressive 97 acceleration, 94 jumping, and 92 speed in the game.

At 6-foot-1, 220 pounds Perkins is a stellar athlete that can do it all on the defense. Recording 70+ tackles in back-to-back seasons along with four defended passes, three forced fumbles, and one interception apiece in his last two seasons. Also racking up 13 sacks in the last two seasons.

But LSU head coach Brian Kelly even admitted that last season Perkins was not used to his full potential, and it will surely be fascinating to see how he’s utilized this upcoming season as LSU looks to improve on the defensive side of the ball.

“Well certainly we didn’t maximize Harold last year, and that’s not, again, a knock on Harold or the coaches,” Kelly told On3’s JD PicKell. “But the reality of it is he’s an elite athlete that we have to get on track this year. Both Harold has got to play better and our coaches have to get him involved more.”
