It has been a stellar summer on the recruiting trail for Brian Kelly and his staff. With the latest commitment of Houston (Texas) Klein Forest four-star wide receiver Jelani Watkins, LSU moved up three spots to No. 10 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

The Tigers have reeled in 10 commitments since the start of June, eight of which are blue-chip prospects. Watkins announced his commitment on Friday afternoon and is the fourth receiver to pledge to LSU’s 2024 class.

“It was a good official visit, for sure. I had gotten to see some of my people, and being around the players again was cool. It was just good vibes from everybody. It feels like home when I go back,” Watkins told The Bengal Tiger after his OV in June.

Watkins grew up in New Orleans before moving to Texas and now returns to Louisiana as a top-5 recruit in this Tigers group.

He is the No. 191 overall prospect and No. 32 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 35 player in Texas.

Watkins bolsters impressive LSU class

LSU continues its impressive rise up the rankings, now cracking the top 10. Three of its top four commits hail from Louisiana in Jackson (La.) Zachary four-star tight end Trey’Dez Green, Denham Springs (La.) four-star safety Dashawn McBryde and Many (La.) four-star linebacker Tylen Singleton.

Watkins is the highest-rated wide receiver committed to LSU. He joins Houma (La.) Terrebonne four-star Kylan Billiot, Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes four-star Joseph Stone and River Ridge (La.) John Curtis four-star Michael Turner.

LSU’s 91.176 score for its class ranks No. 10 in the nation and No. 5 in the SEC. Within the conference, the Tigers trail Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee.
