Five-star wide receiver Jalen Brown of Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep committed to LSU on Friday. Brown’s commitment moved the Tigers’ class to No. 7 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. LSU’s class is currently ranked No. 3 in the SEC behind Alabama and Georgia.

Brown chose the Tigers over Florida State, Miami, Michigan and Texas, elevating the Tigers’ class four spots from No. 11.

Brown is the No. 18 overall prospect and the No. 3 overall wide receiver in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Brown’s commitment marks latest win for LSU’s 2023 class

By landing the second five-star recruit of his LSU career, Brian Kelly continued the Tigers’ success on the recruiting trail. The head coach has landed seven of the Tigers’ 13 commitments for the 2023 class in July.

Three of LSU’s July pledges were four-star EDGE recruits: Jaxon Howard of Minneapolis (Minn.), Dashawn Womack of Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy and Joshua Mickens of Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence Central.

These prospects, along with four-star defensive lineman Darron Reed of Columbus (Ga.) Carver and three-star safety Ashton Stamps of Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel, helped move the Tigers to No. 9 in the Consensus Team Rankings on July 4.

Even though LSU eventually fell behind Oregon and Miami in the rankings, Brown helped push the Tigers back into the top 10. Additionally, LSU earned a commitment on July 7 from three-star cornerback Jeremiah Hughes of Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, who called the Tigers “his dream school.”

The Tigers are still pushing for blue-chip recruits

With the recruiting process still in full swing, LSU is in contention for multiple blue-chip prospects.

The Tigers are the favorite for four-star running back Kaleb Jackson of Baton Rouge (La.) Liberty Magnet High School, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. The RPM gives LSU a 92.5% chance to land Jackson, and an 87.8% percent chance to land four-star offensive lineman Tyree Adams of Marrero (La.) St. Augustine.

Additionally, four-star wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. of Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic is given an 81% chance by the RPM to commit to LSU.

Sampson Jr is the No. 26 prospect in the On3 Consensus, but is rated higher by On3, who ranks him as a five-star, the No. 15 overall prospect and the No. 2 wide receiver.

LSU is currently in closer recruiting battles for prospects such as four-star offensive lineman Chase Bisontis of Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep and four-star linebacker Jaiden Ausberry of Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab.
