LSU offers safeties Sylvester Smith, Jayden Bonsu

Munford (Ala.) safety Sylvester Smith has been offered by LSU, he announced Tuesday afternoon.
Smith is the No. 148 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 12 safety and the No. 13 junior prospect in Alabama.
The offer from the Tigers is his 21st in total, and LSU joins the likes of Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and Miami in the pursuit of Smith.
The 5-foot-11, 192-pounder initially planned to release a list of his top 12 schools. But he then changed his mind and decided to commit in December. At that time, Smith was considered Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan and Oregon. But he was thought to be a heavy Auburn lean after visiting the Tigers three times this fall. December came and went without a commitment announcement, though, and he remains on the board as of now.

Sylvester Smith not the only safety offered on Tuesday
As it has been since Kelly took over, LSU extended multiple offers to players at the same position on Tuesday, with Smith and Hillside (N.J.) St. Peter’s Prep safety Jayden Bonsu receiving them. Currently unranked by the On3 Consensus, Bonsu has amassed an impressive list of offers, including Oklahoma, Penn State, Ole Miss, Ohio State and others.
St. Peter’s Prep played the majority of its games on Saturday this season, which kept Bonsu from visiting schools in the fall. However, he was recently able to visit both Penn State and Oklahoma in the month of January.
