Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic five-star wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. is one of the most talented pass catchers in the 2023 cycle. The LSU commit demonstrated why on Friday night against Montgomery (Ala.) Carver.

Sampson Jr. took off down the field as his quarterback sent a ball to him. He proceeded to rise up over a defensive back and come down with the catch. Sampson Jr. later added two touchdowns.

The 6-foot-3.5, 190 pound wideout is the No. 33 overall prospect and No. 5 wide receiver in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Louisiana.

On3 rates Sampson Jr. higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2023 On300, he is the No. 20 overall prospect and No. 4 wide receiver in the country.

Sampson Jr. committed to the Tigers on Aug. 6. He is the highest-rated prospect in LSU’s 2023 recruiting class, which ranks currently ranks No. 6 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 3 in the SEC.
