LSU players react to new air conditioned helmets
LSU football just rolled out one of the best innovations to happen in the game of football in a really long time. The Tigers’ equipment staff let a number of players try on their new helmets, which have built-in air conditioning. This should certainly prove to be a game-changer for countless college football players across the country. Especially for teams that play a lot of games in extreme heat.
Check out all of their reactions to the new helmets. As you might imagine, they loved them.
The Tigers will wear air-conditioned helmets for all practices and games in 2023. They were created by a Louisiana-based company called Tigeraire. The helmets reportedly have a five-hour life span before they have to be recharged. They will last up to four years.
The cool air can be customized in each helmet and there’s an option to pump the air onto their forehead or down to their nose and mouth. When a player wears a visor, it defogs the screen, so players won’t have to worry about their vision messing up on the field.
Back in 2020, the LSU Office of Innovation and Technology Commercialization filed a patent that offered cooling and circulation technology. The cooling system is called the Football Cyclone V2 and it built into the helmets. They are available on Tigeraire’s website for $185.

The 2022 version of the LSU Tigers finished with an impressive 10-4 overall record, including a 63-7 obliteration of the Purdue Boilermakers in the Citrus Bowl. They return an impressive roster, featured by one of the most dynamic dual-threats in all of college football, Jayden Daniels. He took a massive leap last year, completing 68.6 percent of his passes for 2,913 passing yards, while tossing in 17 touchdowns and three interceptions. A remarkably smooth glider as a runner, Daniels had 186 attempts for 885 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.
If he can post electrifying numbers like that again, he should be a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
Last year was Brian Kelly’s first season as the LSU head coach. He’s undoubtedly heading to the College Football Hall of Fame once it’s time to hang up his whistle. Kelly has been remarkably successful at every place he’s coached college football: Grand Valley State, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and now LSU.
