LSU QB Rickie Collins plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal
LSU quarterback Rickie Collins plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Collins spent two seasons with the Tigers.
Collins appeared in three games this season, completing all five of his pass attempts for 35 total yards. He also recorded four carries for 18 yards.
Collins only appeared in one game in his true freshman season in 2023. In the win, he rushed for 19 yards and completed both of his passes for three yards. He ultimately opted to redshirt that season.
Rickie Collins played high school football at Woodlawn (LA), where he was a four-star prospect. Collins was the No. 234 overall recruit and No. 17 quarterback in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Ahead of the 2023 campaign, eventual Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels discussed his relationship with Collins.
“Rickie Collins? I treat him like my little brother,” Daniels said. “Just seeing him be able to grow day in and day out. Coming in as a true freshman. Trying to just learn how to live on his own, even though he’s from Baton Rouge, but it’s different living on your own. Just how to maneuver and how to treat things professionally? (It’s) how tight we are.”
While Daniels seemed to have high hopes for Collins, LSU head coach Brian Kelly didn’t seem nearly as excited about Collins’ potential at the time.

Alabama WR to transfer
“Rickie’s got to continue to develop because kind of what you said, when you only have three quarterbacks on scholarship, that third quarterback is so crucial for you in its development,” Kelly said.
“I’d say that I’m really pleased with the development of Daniels and Nussmeier and Rickie is kind of — we’re really pushing him hard to continue his trajectory because when you have just three, he’s in the mix, right?”
Now, Collins will look to take his talents elsewhere. He is the first player to enter the transfer portal for LSU this season. Kelly certainly isn’t a stranger to the situation. Last year, LSU lost 21 players to the transfer portal.
