WATCH: LSU shows close up of Corey Kiner's spin-move touchdown
LSU had a much-needed offensive explosion last weekend against Central Michigan, and freshman running back Corey Kiner contributed to the fun with this move.
The 5-foot-10 and 213-pound back finished the 49-21 win as the team’s leading rusher. He had 12 carries and 74 yards, and the touchdown was the second of his career. After seeing action in two games this season, Kiner has 23 carries for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
The Ohio native is one of two very talented running backs that LSU brought in this year; Kiner and Armoni Goodwin have been dubbed “Thunder and Lightning” by their Tiger teammates, per LSU’s website.
Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron has been very impressed with Kiner so far in Baton Rouge.
“It gives us an identity,” Orgeron said of Kiner’s emergence. “He is a strong runner and can break tackles. He can run inside and run outside. He’s got a spark about him. He reminds me — and I am not even saying as a player, but as a person — he reminds me of Clyde [Edwards-Helaire].”
Edwards-Helaire was a 2019 first-team All-SEC running back and first round draft selection currently with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kiner will need to continuously improve this season, especially once the Tigers enter SEC play, as LSU’s run game is currently the second-worst in the SEC. The Tigers are averaging just 85.7 yards per game, with Mississippi State’s Air Raid offense the only team behind them.
Part of the running woes may be attributed to the absence of former five-star recruit and running back John Emery. He was deemed academically ineligible for the season and has hired an attorney in an effort to have the NCAA reconsider.
Last season, Emery made ten appearances, starting three games for the Tigers. He rushed for 378 yards on 75 carries and caught 14 passes for 73 yards.
