Sage Ryan, a safety for the LSU Tigers, elected to enter the transfer portal on Friday after three seasons in Baton Rouge. Now, he has shared some parting words in the aftermath of his decision.

Ryan released a statement regarding his entry into the portal on social media following his choice.

“Tiger Nation, I would like to thank Coach Kelly and the entire LSU coaching staff for the opportunity to further my education and to play the game I love at Louisiana State University,” wrote Sage. “I would also like to thank my family for their unwavering support and guidance as I navigate the next steps in my collegiate career.”

“With that being said, I would like to announce that I will be entering the transfer portal effective immediately,” Sage wrote.

Ryan made nearly 30 appearances with the Tigers over his three campaigns with the program. In that time, he finished with 64 tackles, six pass deflections, and a forced fumble. 2023 was his best season yet as he posted career-highs of 35 tackles and three deflections.

Ryan played high school football at Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 38 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as the the No. 3 safety in the class and the No. 2 player out of Louisiana.
