Report: LSU safety Sage Ryan reverses course, announces he won't enter transfer portal
LSU Tigers safety Sage Ryan has reportedly decided to reverse course after he announced his decision to enter the transfer portal earlier this offseason.
In a statement shared to LSU Odyssey, the Tigers defensive back told the publication he wouldn’t be entering the transfer portal, and he’s instead deciding to return to Baton Rouge.
“I wanna play for my state & for my brothers I sacrificed w/ since I got here,” Ryan said, via LSU Odyssey.
Ryan made nearly 30 appearances with the Tigers over his three campaigns with the program. In that time, he finished with 64 tackles, six pass deflections, and a forced fumble. 2023 was his best season yet as he posted career-highs of 35 tackles and three deflections.
Originally, Ryan released a statement regarding his intentions to enter the transfer portal, but it’s evident he’s changed his mind.
“Tiger Nation, I would like to thank Coach Kelly and the entire LSU coaching staff for the opportunity to further my education and to play the game I love at Louisiana State University,” wrote Sage, before changing his mind. “I would also like to thank my family for their unwavering support and guidance as I navigate the next steps in my collegiate career.”
“With that being said, I would like to announce that I will be entering the transfer portal effective immediately,” Sage wrote.
Ryan played high school football at Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 38 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as the the No. 3 safety in the class and the No. 2 player out of Louisiana.
