Report: LSU star Maason Smith to miss remainder of season with knee injury
LSU received a brutal update on the injury suffered by Maason Smith during their season opener, as he will be out for the entire season, per Julie Boudwin. Smith injured himself while jumping in the air to celebrate a defensive play on the first defensive drive of the game — and now it appears that his accident will cause him to miss the entire year. According to the initial report, Smith tore his ACL during his celebration.
Maason Smith out for season
“It’s really unfortunate news for LSU and Maason Smith… The standout defensive tackle will miss the rest of the season with torn ACL. He will have surgery in a few weeks, according to multiple sources,” explained Boudwin.
Smith left the game during their first defensive series after jumping in the air and landing awkwardly on his left leg, and did not return to the game. Smith was seen on crutches on the sideline in the second half, and coach Brian Kelly explained after the game that he would require an MRI. The results of his further examination were not good, as he will now miss the remainder of the year with a torn ACL.
