LSU catcher Brady Neal has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Neal parts ways with the Tigers program after spending two season in The Bayou, re-opening his recruitment with 70 career games under his belt and a .251 batting average in his college career.

Neal emerged as LSU’s starting catcher in his true freshman season, appearing in starting in 26 games before a back injury sidelined him for the remainder of the Tigers’ national championship-winning season. Boasting a perfect fielding percentage behind home plate with zero errors along with a .209 batting average, 14 hits, three home runs, and nine RBIs on the year.

This past season Neal played in 44 games, splitting catcher duties with Alex Milazzo and Hayden Travinski and often times serving designated hitter in LSU’s lineup. Brining his batting average up to .276 in his sophomore season with nine home runs, 31 RBIs, and impressive .917 OPS.

Neal enters the transfer portal despite Milazzo and Travinski both graduating out of the LSU program. As he’ll now seek out a change of scenery likely as one of the top catcher prospects for the 2025 MLB Draft. Selected in the 17th Round in 2022 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.

LSU transfer portal activity

Along with Neal, LSU has seen several other transfer portal departures this offseason. Particularly at pitcher with Javen ColemanCam JohnsonNick Bronzini, and Samuel Dutton having also entered the transfer portal so far. But despite losing some depth in the bullpen, head coach Jay Johnson has done an excellent job of securing commitments from pitchers out of the transfer portal as well.

Wofford transfer pitchers Zac CowanCamden Wicker both committed to LSU after being the Terriers’ two aces last season. With Cowan earning First-Team All-Southern Conference after going 10-2 on the mound last season with a 3.35 ERA and Wicker having an impressive true freshman season where he was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team.

Former Indiana State pitcher Luke Hayden also committed to the Tigers following a 7-2 on the mound last season for the Sycamores with a 3.81 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched.
