LSU Tigers cornerback Derek Stingley is viewed as one of the top prospects in the upcoming 2022 NFL draft but teams still had questions regarding his health. Dealing with a Lisfranc injury this past year, he has missed a majority of the past two years for LSU.

On Wednesday, Stingley proved he is back to 100% by putting up some ridiculous testing numbers at the LSU Pro Day. The one that shows he is fully healthy, and possibly the most impressive number, is the broad jump, where the cornerback jumped 10 feet and 2 inches.

Stingley was also able to run a sub 4.4 40-yard dash, testing at 4.37 seconds. Had he ran that at the NFL Combine, he would have placed fifth amongst cornerbacks and by far the fastest out of the first-round names at the position.

You can watch Stingley run the 40-yard dash here.

As for the vertical leap, Stingley tested at 38 1/2 inches. Only Kerby Joseph of the Illinois Fighting Illini did that at the combine, from a cornerback’s perspective.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. backs Derek Stingley as top cornerback in draft

There has been some debate about who the top cornerback in the upcoming 2022 NFL draft is. Between Stingley and a few other names, mainly Cincinnati’s Sauce Gardner, people throughout the draft industry have opinions. ESPN’s Mel Kiper has been on the Stingley bandwagon for quite some time and most recently defended the former LSU player as the top cornerback in the draft back in early March.

“Derek Stingley Jr., to me, is going to still be my number one corner,” Kiper said. “You look at him and you go back to 2019 … I’m looking at Stingley saying “is this guy supposed to drop because of two years with COVID and all the things that went along with that, that disappointing year at LSU?’ He had more past breakups, more interceptions that some of these guys didn’t have [in their entire] career.”
