Brian Kelly on future 12-team playoff: 'We expect to be there'
LSU is out of College Football Playoff contention this season, but the Tigers would still be in the mix under a 12-team format. Brian Kelly is looking forward to the playoff expanding next year and believes it is in the best interest of the sport.
More teams getting into the College Football Playoff means more teams will be playing huge games as the season winds down, according to Kelly. He expects his team to not only be in the mix but to make the playoff next year.
“We expect to be there. That’s why we’re here at LSU, you know, to be part of championship play and postseason play, if you will,” Brian Kelly said. “I’m a fan of 12 teams. I always have been. I started my career in Division II where we had 16, now it’s 32. It’s exciting.
“I mean, you know, whether you’re on campus or hosting or you’re not, I just think it’s going to be great for college football. You know, who knows, right now, if we’re in this position, I think we’re 15th, maybe we get a little help and we slide in. So that would make it exciting for everybody in college football that the top 15-16 teams are still fighting for an opportunity for postseason.”
There are some coaches who are against the playoff expanding, but it’s clear that Kelly is not one of them.

For now, his focus is on helping LSU finish out this season strong, before trying to lead the Tigers to the 12-team playoff next year.
“I think this is going to be exciting,” Kelly said. “We still have some work to do this year. Our goal is obviously… everybody remembers how you finish. And for us, it’s about finishing strong and finish the season strong, and that’s what our focus is right now.”
Logan Diggs listed as doubtful for Georgia State game, per Brian Kelly
LSU has two games remaining in the regular season as it looks to finish out the year strong.
The first one comes Saturday when the Tigers host Georgia State. Brian Kelly announced earlier this week that LSU is unlikely to have its top running back available for this weekend’s game.
“I would say he’s doubtful,” Kelly said of Logan Diggs.
Diggs has rushed for 635 yards and six touchdowns this season. He is averaging 5.6 yards per carry. The Notre Dame transfer also missed last weekend’s game against Florida, which LSU won 52-35.
