The talk of college football Twitter recently has been Brian Kelly dancing with On3 Consensus four-star quarterback Walker Howard to ‘Callin’ Baton Rouge’. Howard tweeted the video out and it’s gone viral with over 2,000 retweets and 5,000 likes.
Everyone has seemed to comment on the situation, including ESPN analyst Greg McElroy. After being asked about the excitement of national signing day, the former Alabama quarterback took an unintentional joke about his former head coach Mike Shula.
“I was excited,” McElroy said on College Football Live on Tuesday. “I was excited for the opportunity. I do think the world’s changed a little bit. I didn’t care whether or not my coach appeared to be cool. I mean, I committed to Mike Leach and then Mike Shula. Neither one of which are the most charismatic guys in the world. So why everyone’s beating up on Brian Kelly because he can’t dance — Joey (Galloway), why does that matter? He can’t dance and he can’t pronounce the word family. What’s the big deal? I don’t get it.”
McElroy originally committed to play for Leach at Texas Tech before flipping to Alabama and Shula. He made the point of playing college football is about a lot more than just having a “cool” head coach.
Now, McElroy ended up playing for and winning a national championship with Nick Saban. Even then, the head coach was a lot more intense around the clock than he is today.

Brian Kelly targeting Kentucky DC for same position at LSU
Back to the football field, where Kelly is targeting Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White for the same position. This comes after Kelly tried to bring Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman with him. Now, he will be trying to poach from within the conference.
White has spent the last four seasons in Lexington, with the last three being as the defensive coordinator. He has turned Kentucky into a solid defensive unit within the SEC, helping the program reach 10 wins for the first time since 1977.
Before working with the Wildcats, White made stops at the Air Force, Wake Forest, and Murray State as a positional coach on the defensive side of the ball. He spent six seasons in the NFL as well with the Indianapolis Colts, reaching as high as the outside linebackers coach.
With Kelly now targeting White as his defensive coordinator, his staff is nearly complete. With national signing day just two days away, recruits will want to know who they will be playing for. The LSU head coach will need to move quickly.
