Key LSU assistant remaining on staff under Brian Kelly
Brian Kelly’s staff at LSU is starting to take shape, and LSU announced an important assistant is coming back.
Offensive line coach Brad Davis is returning next year, LSU said Wednesday. Davis is LSU’s interim head coach for the Texas Bowl after the university agreed to part ways with Ed Orgeron after this season.
“Brad Davis is an exceptional teacher of the game and leader of young men, and his passion and dedication to this university and this community are second to none,” Kelly said in a statement. “Our offensive line has made tremendous strides under his leadership this season, and his expertise and technical knowledge of offensive line play will remain vital to our program. We are thrilled he will continue to recruit and develop elite student-athletes at LSU.”
Davis is in his first year as offensive line coach at LSU after holding the same position at Florida, Missouri and Arkansas over the last four seasons. He played guard at Oklahoma from 1999-2002 and helped the Sooners to the 2000 national championship.
“As a Baton Rouge native, I’m extremely grateful to represent LSU, and I remain fully committed to helping Coach Kelly and this staff win championships,” Davis stated. “I’m going to continue to work as hard as I can to give our student-athletes the best opportunity for success and to make our fans proud.”

WATCH: Brad Davis knows the responsibility he’s undertaking with LSU
LSU interim head coach Brad Davis wants to coach the Tigers to a win in the Texas Bowl. As a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native and an alum of the program, the long-time SEC offensive line coach, naturally, Davis wants that for his team.
However, that’s not his only motivation for these next few weeks before he fully hands the keys over to Brian Kelly. Brad Davis wants to send a larger message in his brief time as the head coach at LSU.
“I hope to in this role represent LSU in a great light, but also represent all young African-American coaches out there who are looking for this very opportunity,” Davis said on Monday. “It is a big deal. I want to go out there and coach this team to success. I want to win this game and, more importantly, when I look back, I want to be proud of what I did in this role.
“To not only help the young men in this program but help aspiring coaches, kids in North Baton Rouge who ride the transfer bus and may not see a way out, I was one of those kids and I’m here right now,” Davis continued. “I tell you what, utilizing the resources around you and having a prayin’ mama, you can be up here too, it’s easy.”
