Report: LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte seen without walking boot

Baton Rouge was the site for the LSU 7-on-7 camp on Friday, with some of the top prospects in the country showcasing their talents. However, news about Tigers wide receiver Kayshon Boutte emerged from the high school event, as he is still recovering from injury.

Brody Miller of The Athletic says Boutte was seen walking around LSU facilities without a protective boot. Boutte has been dealing with a leg injury since last season, only appearing in six games. Oct. 9 against Kentucky was the wide receiver’s last appearance in an LSU uniform.

“In other news, star LSU receiver Kayshon Boutte was walking around the facilities without protective boot Friday,” Miller said. “He looked slimmer and more in shape than at other points during his rehab, so that’s a positive sign for LSU’s star player.

Boutte broke onto the scene as a true freshman, bringing in 45 balls for 735 yards and five touchdowns in the shortened 2020 season. Even though he missed half of last year, Boutte had 38 receptions for 509 yards and nine touchdowns. Scary to think what he could have done in a full season.

If he can get back to 100% health, the wide receiver can display what he can do under head coach Brian Kelly. He has already been projected as a first-team All-SEC player and is ready to lead the LSU offense to new heights.

Brian Kelly discusses growth seen in Keyshon Boutte

Boutte has proven to be a dangerous and explosive offensive weapon. Last year, his season was cut short due to a leg injury in early October. That injury has carried over into the offseason, and Boutte is still working his way back into the LSU offense.

New LSU head coach Brian Kelly has seen a lot of growth in Boutte in their limited time working together. Kelly has focused on keeping Boutte engaged, even if he isn’t able to fully participate on the field quite yet. When discussing Boutte, Kelly said that the talented wideout is now doing “the little things” that will put him in a position for success later on.

“I was proud of him, I really was,” Kelly said of Boutte. “Because some would take it the other way and say I’m not going to do this. But by the end of the spring, he was coaching our younger players. He was doing the little things the right way. He’s been in the training room, he wasn’t earlier. All I know is that he’s doing the little things necessary for himself and our team that’s going to put him in a good position later.”
