LSU transfer QB Rickie Collins refutes report on Syracuse commitment
Former LSU quarterback Rickie Collins has not committed to any program out of the transfer portal, despite reports stating otherwise.
The former Tigers QB was reportedly expected to sign with Syracuse on Wednesday but has since refuted the claim. He stated that he has “not officially committed anywhere,” and reassured coaches that his “recruitment is still open.”
Collins appeared in three games this past season as a redshirt freshman, completing all five of his pass attempts for 35 yards. He also added 18 rushing yards on the ground.
As a true freshman in 2023, Collins played in just one game. In that lone appearance against Grambling State, he went 2-for-2 passing for three yards while taking three carries for 19 yards.
He will have three years of eligibility remaining for whichever program he eventually commits to.
Before spending the start of his career in Baton Rouge, Collins played high school football at Baton Rouge (La.) Woodlawn, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 234 overall player and No. 17-ranked quarterback from the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

Meanwhile for LSU, they finished the regular season 8-4 after being ranked as high as No. 8 in the country during the season. They’ll play Baylor in the Kinder’s Texas Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
The portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.
That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
