LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton, Jr. told The Advertiser that he suffered a recent shoulder injury that required surgery on Thursday. He posted a picture in the hospital recovering from his surgery on Thursday afternoon. He’s expected to miss the rest of the season, according to Wilson Alexander of The Advocate. It’s tough news for the speedy redshirt freshman wideout. This year, Hilton hauled in seven catches for 109 receiving yards and a touchdown before suffering the injury.

Coming out of Zachary High School (Zachary, La.), Hilton was a standout in both football and track and field. As a junior in 2019, he hauled in 846 receiving yards and 11 touchdown catches. As a sophomore in 2018, he caught a screen pass and took it 80-yards for the game-winning touchdown in Zachary’s 5A state title win over West Monroe. A dominant high jumper, Hilton won the 5A Louisiana outdoor state title for the third time as a senior. He also claimed the state championship in the 400-meter dash in the outdoor and indoor competitions during his senior season.

LSU receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas, Jr. are currently the top two on the team in receiving yardage. By far the biggest surprise of the 2022 season has been the production of Tigers’ superstar wideout Kayshon Boutte. Many people had him pegged as the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft, but thus far he’s had a remarkably disappointing season, only reeling in 11 catches for 97 receiving yards. Whatever the problem is, clearly LSU needs to get that fixed. Boutte is simply far too talented of a wideout to not be touching the football more often. That’s why Brian Kelly gets paid the big bucks.

LSU faces off against Hendon Hooker and the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday, Oct. 8. Kickoff is slated for noon EST from Baton Rouge, La. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
