LSU’s men’s basketball team is currently being investigated by the NCAA for actions that occurred under Will Wade. It was the Notice of Allegations for this investigation that got Wade removed from his position. Then, in his place, LSU hired Matt McMahon.

Now, while speaking to the media, Matt McMahon acknowledged that pending NCAA investigation.

“We’ve got to control what we can control,” Matt McMahon said. “Whatever’s happened in the past, I have nothing to do with it. We have nothing to do with it.”

“We have nothing to do with what happens NCAA-wise moving forward. So, we don’t ever talk about it.”

From there, Matt McMahon transitioned his answer. He wanted to make it clear that he wasn’t thinking about the investigation because it’s something that he can’t control. Instead, his focus is on improving the LSU basketball team.

“I came here to LSU to move the LSU basketball program forward, and to build a championship program, and so we focus on that every single day. Players come here, they want to get better. They want to win. They want to be on the biggest stage in the country here in the SEC, and they want to prepare to go play in the NBA one day. So, I think it’s important that we just keep our focus on that daily process, how you go about getting there.”

Matt McMahon was hired by LSU in March of 2022, on a seven-year deal. Prior to that, he was the head coach of Murray State, where he went to the NCAA Tournament and won the Ohio Valley Conference three times.

LSU football recently was hit with sanctions for its case against the program and offensive line coach James Cregg. Notably, those were different sanctions than those being investigated against Will Wade.
