Matt McMahon calls LSU debut 'awesome'
The Matt McMahon era is off and running in the Bayou. The new LSU hoops coach kicked off his Tigers tenure with a home victory over a pesky UMKC team. LSU led throughout and never felt in peril against the Kangaroos, but the matchup was competitive and never in a blowout state.
For McMahon, just getting on that win column was an accomplishment, and he did just that. After the game, McMahon’s reflected on the start of a new life at LSU and expressed just how thrilled he is to be with the program and in the Baton Rouge community.
“It’s awesome. I’m excited to be here at LSU. I love it, my family loves it, we’ve really enjoyed the move here to Baton Rouge,” McMahon said, before further complimenting his new home.
“People have been very welcoming, a lot of generous people here. It’s been a great experience. So, just looking forward to getting our team better as we work our way through November and December, but it’s awesome. I had a lot of family here and it means a lot to me to have this opportunity.”

After the whole Will Wade ordeal and having the FBI and NCAA looming over the LSU hoops program, Matt McMahon is ushering in a new era.
More on UMKC win
In the win over UMKC, the Tigers were led in part by the three Murray State imports who switched schools along with Coach McMahon when he came over this summer. KJ Williams, last year’s Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, led the way with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while point guard Justice Hill added 13 points and led the team with seven assists.
Overall, it was another transfer, Adam Miller, who led everyone with 18 on the night. He missed all of last season due to injury and was planning to transfer again this off-season, but McMahon talked the former top-30 recruit into staying and giving it a go at LSU. Looks like that decision is paying off both ways.
