LSU extended their season by at least a day with their 72-67 win over Georgia. Even so, the Tigers have a quick turnaround against a hot Vanderbilt team in the SEC Tournament.

As far as a first impression, Matt McMahon gave credit to Jerry Stackhouse’s coaching job during this successful stretch to end their season. From there, he says the Tigers will have to adjust to a different-looking Commodore team considering they’ll be without Liam Robbins this time around.

(Stackhouse) is a big-time coach,” said McMahon. “We’ll have to really turn the page quickly here and start our preparation. I think, offensively, they execute at a high, high level and as well as anyone in the country.”

“The other thing we obviously have to factor in is when we played them last time a few weeks ago? Robbins was still available. He had a monster game,” McMahon said. “So, with him out, I know they’ve continued to have great success and win a lot of games. But we’ve got to spend a lot of time tonight figuring out how they’re playing different and what we need to prepare for to give ourselves an opportunity tomorrow night.”

As McMahon said, Vanderbilt has benefitted from some hot offensive play since the start of February. Over their last nine games, they’ve won eight of them by averaging 75.6 points per game in that run.

It’s also impressive considering who has been in and out of the lineup, specifically Robbins. However, it might benefit LSU considering, in the first matchup, Robbins put up 23 points, 11 rebounds, and nine blocks in 33 minutes.

Vanderbilt’s only loss in that nine-game stretch was to LSU down in Baton Rouge. That along with Robbins’ absence and their win last night should give McMahon’s team a lot of confidence. However, it’s still up to them to handle their business later tonight when both teams hit the hardwood.
