Matt McMahon gives inside look to Trey'Dez Green's status for remainder of 2025
The LSU Tigers have a promising two-sport athlete in Trey’Dez Green. A tight end on the football team, he also has a spot on the basketball team as a walk-on and now it appears his time with the basketball team is coming to fruition.
Following Tuesday’s win over Arkansas, head coach Matt McMahon shared an update on Trey’Dez Green’s status with the team moving forward in 2025.
“Trey’Dez has started practice,” Matt McMahon said. “There’s an acclimation process. He started with individual workouts, he’s done very well there. He’s now starting to work his way into 5-on-5 live practice and has been really good here his first week with the team.”
Football has been the primary focus for Trey’Dez Green since getting to LSU. A five-star recruit in the Class of 2024, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the top-ranked tight end, second-ranked player in the state of Louisiana, and the 31st-ranked player nationally in the recruiting cycle.

Football season and basketball season run together, which meant that football took priority over walking onto the basketball team for Trey’Dez Green. That’s why, as Matt McMahon noted, he has just recently started practicing with the team and getting ready to be game ready for the Tigers.
The LSU Tigers are now in their third season under head coach Matt McMahon and amid a highly competitive SEC. To this point, LSU is 12-5 overall and 1-3 in SEC play. Their win over Arkansas proved to be the first win of the season for the Tigers in conference play. It also moved them to 12th in the SEC standings with plenty of time to go in the season.
Trey’Dez Green did not dress for the game against Arkansas. When he is able to dress and play in games, he’s expected to be a forward for the Tigers.
While Matt McMahon wasn’t clear about the exact time fans could expect to see Trey’Dez Green on the court, he’s trending in the right direction for it. LSU’s next game, meanwhile, will be played on Saturday on the road against Texas A&M.
