Matt McMahon reacts to crowd turnout for LSU's win over Ole Miss
The LSU Tigers and head coach Matt McMahon got a massive win on Wednesday night against Ole Miss in front of a great crowd of home fans.
After the game, McMahon praised the crowd while talking about how he has tried to rebuild the program and rebuild it in the right way.
“We’ve got a long way to go but we’re trying to build,” Matt McMahon said. “We’re trying to build. Our players have worked extremely hard to improve our team. We’re such a better team today than we were back in the middle of December, and our players deserve all of the credit. They really took advantage of the break from academics over Christmas to spend a lot of time not only in the gym working but in the weight room, film study, but starting to build a real team off the court.”
LSU has now won three out of its last four games in SEC play after struggling during non-conference play this season. The program is improving and taking the strides forward that Matt McMahon wants to see.
“So, we’ve made a lot of strides there, and I think at the end of the day when you’re trying to build, fans respect hard work. They respect players that play with passion, that play unselfishly and together and give relentless effort on the floor. Our guys have been doing that. We’ve got a long way to go. Got to keep building it,” McMahon said.

Matt McMahon explains how non-conference has prepared LSU for SEC play
Going into SEC play, Matt McMahon shared how he felt the Tigers’ non-conference slate had prepared LSU for conference play.
“Well, it’s been very up and down, as you said. Moving parts with the lineup and so forth. The only thing that matters is what we do moving forward. I think our guys really responded well to yesterday’s practice. It was probably the best practice that we’ve had all year,” McMahon said.
“Now, you hope that carries over to the game floor. I think the focus just has to be on getting better. We added a new piece in Jalen Cook, now we have to build the chemistry around that. The goal is to build consistency. So that’s what we’ll try to be very intentional in how we prepare.”
